GUILTY PARTIES
ABOUT
Scavengerfest was created by Ricky Sanders, Katie Walton, and Jeremy Walton over dinner one evening. On a road trip to New Orleans, Ricky had the idea to create a scavenger hunt that he and his friends could enjoy. He was wanting to do something different, something unique, that would give him and his friends an opportunity to compete against each other, while enjoying the city of Augusta. When he proposed this to Katie and Jeremy, Katie suggested to make this an event open to the public. Things just snowballed from there, and before we knew it we were planning the first ever Scavengerfest.
We all agreed this would make for a good charity event, however we wanted the charity to be local. We bounced around a lot of different charities, however we settled on the Boys and Girls Club for two reasons. The first is because we all work in the education field. Katie is a teacher in Greenwood, Jeremy coaches soccer in Lincoln County, and Ricky teaches and coaches in Richmond County. The second reason is because Ricky used to teach at Jenkins-White Elementary which shared their gym with the Boys and Girls Club. He still wanted to give back to his kids in that community, because it wasn't the kids that made him leave Jenkins-White. Once that was settled, we all got to work on hosting our first ever event, and recruited our friend Ben Davall to help us out.
Scavengefest 2014 took place in the Fall, and we hosted it at the Marriott in downtown Augusta. The hunt only consisted of Team Selfies and Bring Backs, and only had 4 sponsors that year. However it was a success, and we were able to raise $800 for our local Boys and Girls Club. Since our inception many things have changed!! The hunt has become more elaborate, more difficult, more fun, more engaging, and most of all more focused on bringing the community together while supporting the Boys and Girls Club of Greater Augusta.
That is our goal, our mission, our focus!! We created Scavengerfest to benefit everyone involved with the event. From our Participants, to our Sponsors, our Guest Artist, and the Boys and Girls Club everyone can be proud they are a part of this event. Community is what makes this event so successful, and we look forward to creating many more Hunts for you all to enjoy!!
